I just watched the Jacquemus show yesterday, and a number of points stuck out to me…namely, I’m glad I invested in a few trends that are most certainly staying around a while. Here’s what I observed:
Balletcore is STILL RELEVANT
Every single model - men and women alike - wore these gorgeous ballet flats with black ribbons up the ankle. Chic as F.

What I plan on doing about it…continue accenting my hair and jewelry with ribbon, small amounts since I’m over 40 and it can look silly if I go overboard, and absolutely don’t retire the ballet flats. Feminine skirts are still happening, so don’t shy away. These looks are so elegant and I’m thrilled to see they’re sticking around.
Those colors I told you to buy…STILL RELEVANT!
Ice blue. Ballet pink.
Jacquemus’ Simone Porte basically gave us a gentle hug and said, “you get to keep them another year.”

The pink is so delicate, a bare whisper of the hue. I absolutely love how ethereal it looks. The blue is a bit bolder in this image, but some of the looks had a blue so pale I had to flip back and forth between the white to make sure. But oh, it’s there. Now, most of the collection was a starkly beautiful array of black and white (gurrrl you know I love contrast), but these bits of color (notice I do not say POPS…they are not pops, they are breaths) are indicating that the trend is staying. You’re safe, for now, pale pastels! I like wearing these colors almost exactly as Jacquemus has in his lineup - with black and white. I love the gentle versus the bold in this way, and it’s just crisp, airy and summery.
Something new…ish
One trend that I’ve seen really only tangentally, but I think is going to become big, is large tassels. After seeing Jonathan Anderson’s new Dior bags that are nearly entirely made up of tassels, then seeing some big dangly ones in this Jacquemus collection, I’ll bet money that we’ll be seeing more of this. I love how oversized they are! Very cool!

These are particularly chic because they’re more sculptural than fringe-y, but fringe is still hitting it hard because of the return of boho. How I’d incorporate tassels would be as bag charms (love ‘em or hate ‘em, they’re here to stay), earrings, and the occasional cool garment like this dress. My eyes are peeled for more tassels to come!
So, what do you think of the Jacquemus show? I’m soooo excited for Paris Couture Week, starting July 7, and am currently counting the hours until the Schiaparelli show. Which shows are your must-watch? Let’s yap!
